I like the Exec's responec;
"That's true: I won't see this movie because I'm scared it won't make any money."

I found it interesting.

Please read mine and tell me what you think.

Good dialogue - I was feeling the whole thing - I could see Spielberg
and the studio exec - funny, too!

very nice, well written

Absolutely fantastic. Five stars, hon! Very nicely done! The dialog is snappy and clever; I can see this completely. I would enjoy this, as would my whole family, and all of my friends. The audience isn't limited by dirty humor, but the comedy is quite mature.
Very, very clever and very, very well done. Very well done.

Y'know, if you categorize this as a comedy sketch, I'm sure you'd get lots of nominations.

Spielberg: Okay, so they go out to find the shark and it starts wrecking the boat -

Studio Exec: Now, you're getting it!

Ha-ha-ha!

This sounds to me a lot like the conversation in Monty Python and the Holy Grail between the King of Swamp Castle and his guards. Very frustrating for the characters, but you keep the pace up VERY well!

Hilarious man i enjoyed it a lot

Shit. I laughed SO Hard at this. "Lazer teeth, like a James bond thing?" lol classic.

The only thing is, that in 1975, I really don't think an Exec would be pitching the ideas that you have here.

It may work better with a newer film, but a simple one like Jaws.

This reminds me of the story Kevin Smith tells at his Q&A's about him and Producer John Peters (Batman, Rain Man). Kevin was hired for a rewrite on a Superman script and Peter's was just, cooky and strange.. I can see the producer in this sketch being Peters. You can find it on Youtube. It's a FUNNY story and has a GREAT ending.

Thanks! Yeah, the ironic part is how something like "JAWS", one of the greatest movies of it's kind, would probably never get made today b/c it's so simple and pure.
Thanks for your comments!

well, Im reminded of the other shark movie called something like "Open water" I think. The whole movie is just a couple stranded in the middle of an ocean. Its based on a true story though. Simple.

In true movie fashion, you gotta do sequels...you can use other Spielberg films too.

E.T.
Spielberg: So there's this alien.
Exec: And he's huge?
S: Nope, kinda small actually.
E: But he eats people?
S: Well, candy. He likes candy.

Would work with Close Encounters too...

"Red Water" was another more recent Jaws-like film. It didn't get in theatres, but it was on TV and DVD.

It's basically about a freshwater shark that starts eatin' everybuddeh. ... Yum.
Then there's something about a treasure, but it's mostly shark teeth and guts.

I really liked it. It's fun and clever and showcases your talent. Good job!

I think the Peter Benchley novel really helped seal the deal, though (sorry, had to throw that in there ;} )

I think this is really funny and cleverly written. I agree with the sequel idea too. There are so many films you could do.

Thanks everyone for the great comments and idea to do sequels. I hadn't thought of this script in a while and suddenly it's getting these comments. Great stuff!
Jeff (Sent 3 years, 7 months ago)
Yeah, you can think Emma for that. I saw it listed as one of her favorites, I found it, rated it yesterday, and of course, it shows up on the front page. So, everyone else sees it and here they are! I didn't realize how old it was until after I read it...

Yeah, I did it as part of the first "You Wrote It, Live" (something like that)... It was during Script Frenzy so I was writing a lot of random stuff.

Thanks! I wrote it as part of script frenzy (http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/) so I was writing a lot (of random) stuff. Thanks again! You might like some of my other short things like this (script dragon, clippy is here to help, yoda over compensates, simon says, etc.). Thanks!!!
